Here’s what I’m working on…

Happy June everyone, how has another month gone already? I hope everyone is well and staying safe, I know restrictions are being slightly lifted as of today, even so still stay safe.

In this weeks post, I will fill you in on what I’m working on. To everyone who follows my instagram and facebook page, you probably already know but I’m always switching and changing something or other. There is also a poem I want to share with you so that will be at the end of the post.

The main project I’m currently working on is my poetry collection, ‘Beautifully Broken’. To those who don’t know what its about:

Beautifully broken is a collection of poetry I’ve put together to talk about “the hard stuff” covering topics of domestic violence, mental abuse, depression, heartbreak. However, the collection is also about finding beauty in even the darkest places, finding the light and coming through it even better and stronger. So other poems included are about; recovery, optimism, positive mindsets, falling in love and healing.

My reason for writing this is because it’s important to me, all of these things I’ve gone through and know other people that have gone through the same. At the time it’s daunting, frightening and lonely but I want to, not only raise awareness and acknowledge issues raised in this book, but also to let anyone going through these or similar situations your not alone and there will always be a better, brighter day ahead.

Since I’ve been writing this collection I have had so many doubts about weather or not I’m doing the right thing but in my heart I know I am. It doesn’t make it easy hearing people say ‘your writing is too dark’. ‘There are people in the world that have gone through worse’. ‘Shouldn’t you be writing happier things by now’. But these comments no longer bother me, they are opinions of other people who are entitled to every opinion they want. And yes I know there are terrible, much worse situations going on and other people have suffered but this is my story and I will tell it. End of. And here’s a note of encouragement to anyone questioning anything they are doing; If you love what you do, do it. If its your passion, do it. If no one else quite gets it, do it. As long as what your doing is making you happy it’ll be worth every bit. Besides when people start questioning you, it really says more about them.

One last update on my collection. The poems will be going off to my editor at the end of this month, to be published in October this year (I don’t have an exact date yet but when I do you’ll know).

I am still working on my fiction projects as well as studying for my Equine Sports Massage Therapy which are both going well but this post is longer than I anticipated so I will save those for another time.

So to end this post I want you to take away a few things:

  • If you’re struggling, I promise you it will end. Better days are coming and I’m always right here for a chat. You’re not alone!
  • If you’re questioning anything about what you’re doing because of what other people think, forget about them. As long as your happy keep doing what you love. Trust your gut and follow your heart, it will never lead you astray.
  • A poem which you can read below.

Day one

One day or day one

Which is it to be?

You have dreams don’t you?

You have goals and ambitions and a life you envision

So why is it only an image in your mind?

What’s holding you back?

Are you afraid?

Are you being held hostage by your own limiting beliefs

Listening to the opinions of others telling you what you’ll achieve

Well this is your time

Stop saying one day and make this day one

Instead of living in the shadows of your desires

Step into the light and take control

I hope you all have a wonderful day, and every day after that. Stay safe and I will speak to you in my next post.

Jess x
